Summary of known hazards and risks to human health:

Bis (2-choroethyl)ether is a possible carcinogen to humans. The chemical is a primary respiratory irritant which may cause narcosis in high concentration.

Expected effect of the final regulatory action in relation to human health:

It is expected that the regulatory action will significantly reduce the potential risk of carcinogenic and acute toxic effect to workers and the general public during organic synthesis process.

Bis (2-chloroethyl) ether and mixtures were banned for manufacture, use and import by MOE's public notice no 1999-44(9 August 1991). The notice was amended several times and final amended notice took into force on 13 November 2003.
