The final regulatory action was based on a risk or hazard evaluation: Yes

Summary of the final regulatory action:

Cancel registration and have no new registrations of chemical pesticides for agricultural use with the active ingredients Endosulfan, Aldicarb and Lead Arsenate; and lift the suspension of registration of chemical pesticides for agricultural use with the active ingredients Methamidophos and Paraquat.

The reasons for the final regulatory action were relevant to: Environment

Summary of known hazards and risks to the environment:

It is a bioaccumulative substance, with high mobility and persistence in soil and water, high potential for leeching to groundwater and is stable to soil photolysis.

Following the evaluation of ecotoxicological data, Lead Arsenate is classified as moderately toxic to birds, bees and aquatic organisms (vertebrates and invertebrates), slightly toxic to earthworms and algae.

According to Iannacone et al. 2009, the use of Lead Arsenate in terms of arsenic to control pests in cotton cultivation is not consistent, because the recommended dose causes risk in terrestrial invertebrates fauna mainly by contact.

Expected effect of the final regulatory action in relation to the environment:

Cancel the registration of Lead Arsenate formulations, thus such pesticides can not be imported, manufactured, formulated, distributed, and marketed in Peru.

Date of entry into force of the final regulatory action: 01/02/2012
